John and baby #1 Tane

My name is John Niumata, I am the proud father of two boys. Unfortunately for my wife and me, both boys had colic. Luckily by the time number 2 came along I had totally figured out how to deal with colic, so it was almost like having a baby without colic.

I am originally from New Zealand but now live in the UK in a sleepy little town just outside Ipswich.

Our first boy pictured here caught us totally unprepared, and only after Tane was born did I start to read books on such simple things as how often to feed babies. Luckily there are some great books for first time parents and so that saved us. But soon we realized that our bundle of joy would not stop crying, and could easily outlast us with crying through the night, we could not seem to get baby to sleep.

It was then that my wife Sarah mentioned colic, and that lots of babies get it, I am not sure who told her. I started to read up about colic and because I am a bit of a nerd, I started to buy books on the subject. I got lucky and also happened to buy a book on baby sleep (which is like a medical journal). Before long I started to piece together all the parts of the puzzle and started experimenting with Tane to get him to sleep. A few books later we had the secrets to getting him to sleep.

At about 3 months the colic was gone and we forgot all about it…. until baby number 2 came along. Baby number 2 is called Kanen, and he also had colic problems. Since we were prepared and knew what to do it was not much of a problem. But I did have to dig out all the information my wife needed so she could follow the formula again. This prompted me to write the Crying Baby Help Ebook.

I have also continued my research on colic and I am constantly scouring the web looking for supporting studies and information that will further help parents of colicky babies.
