Gas and Colic
Gas is often related to colic. I believe this may be due to casual observation that when a baby is squirming and crying they appear to have abdominal pain. Many mothers also swear that if the burping is done correctly and gas is eliminated then the colic is reduced.
For the most part I have to agree and say that in my opinion there is a relationship, but it is not the cause, only another trigger of the real cause of colic.
Previously I stated that I think the cause is lack of self calming as the main cause of colic. I stick by what I said. I believe that gas only causes mild irritation and only is noticed if the baby already has a problem with self calming. This is noticed more because quite often baby wants to sleep after eating, but is not able to due to it’s inability to self calm. So baby starts crying.
However, I will say that gas is the easiest of the triggers to do something about. There are several steps you can take to reduce gas and I think every parent should do all of these steps. see the book for more
