Preparing for a new baby
If you are about to have your first child you may wonder what you need to prepare for the arrival your new baby.
As a mother you will naturally start the nesting process and begin to gather items in preparation for baby.
But how do you know you have got all the essentials and not just the nice things? From observing my wife and the differences between baby 1 and baby 2 I can say that for the most part she got it right, and as a mother you will probably do fine as well. But here are a few surprises.
Where my wife got it exactly right was the clothes, she seemed to get exactly the right amount of everything. But where she could have done better was with the tools of the trade so to speak.
I will say there was one thing that was an absolute life saver, that normally you would not think to buy. That was the shaped pillow. It is a U shaped pillow that allows you to position your baby in almost any position while still supporting baby completely. I honestly say that, the shaped pillow was the surprise item, and it was a gift from another parent who knew the value of the baby pillow.
The next item I would recommend that we did not discover until our second baby was Dr Brown’s bottles. These pretty much eliminate any air being sucked in while baby is feeding from a bottle.
The one thing we got right from the start was a baby monitor with breathing monitor. Now that may seem a little paranoid (and it probably is) but if you can afford it, you will not regret it. Although we did not even have a single false alarm, it really provides peace of mind when you are downstairs or away from baby.
Bumbo! This is a rubber foam chair for babies that cannot sit upright. It is great to get baby to be able to see you and others, and encourages baby to look around and interact with the things going on around it.
