How to tell if you have a colic baby
Studies show that colic occurs in approximately 20% of babies, and so it means that probably 80% of parents don’t know exactly what colic is. Since 100% of my sons (2 of them) have colic I quickly found out what it was and how to know it was colic.
The main thing you will realize is that your baby cries waaaay too much. That is what will make you notice.
The next thing you should look for is a few indicators.
- baby cries 3 hours a day, at least 3 days a week, continues for 3 weeks, usually stops at about 3 months.
- if your baby is crying uncontrollably but it eases when baby is placed on the stomach.
- crying pauses if loud white noise is heard (like a hair dryer or vacuum cleaner)
- crying is worse in the afternoon
- baby looks tired by cries instead of sleeping
All of the above indicate a colic baby. Believe it or not our second baby has not really caused my wife and I many problems because we now know how to stop the colic.
There are some sure fire ways to stop the crying and colic, but they are quite particular and if not done right can be frustrating. My wife is not as good at applying the techniques as I am and so she often tires herself out and baby too, but cannot stop the crying. She calls on me and it takes me less than five minutes before baby is quiet and asleep, just because I can apply the techniques properly.
